Type 1

Porter was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on December 22. I took him to our pediatrician on that Thursday morning and by the afternoon we were checked into Primary Children's Hospital in Salt Lake City. We spent two full days in the hospital learning about Type 1 and being trained on how to care for our little son, while Porter began receiving insulin that his body was in great need of. We were released late Christmas Eve afternoon to return home and begin our "new normal."

The weeks have flown by. I have not had much free time to write my many thoughts about our new experiences and our feelings relating to it all. It has been a month now since Porter's diagnosis and we have already learned so much, not only about Type 1, but about each other. I am learning so many lessons that I hope I can remember them all, and begin again to find some quiet moments to record them and our precious family life.

I'm so sorry you have to deal with this, but happy you were able to get it diagnosed sooner than later. You are a very capable person and I have no doubt you will be back to your "new normal" before too long....Porter is in good hands!
