Daddy Daughter Date

Ryan took Sophie on a little date the Friday night before her birthday. I watched as they pulled out of the driveway and my heart was happy to see their smiling faces riding off together. They went to dinner, where Sophie ordered (all by herself mind you) macaroni and cheese and mashed potatoes. They chatted about this and that and Ryan told her about the day she was born and the beautiful sunset that accompanied her birth. After dinner they went for ice cream. While eating their cones Ryan surprised her by announcing that next- they were headed to the store to pick out a toy of her choice! She picked out a stuffed animal- a purple and pink unicorn which she named Cotton Candy. She also couldn't leave the store without bringing something home for Porter... she was concerned he would feel left out of all the fun (so sweet). So they brought him home a suction dart gun with which he was delighted. Ryan told me that on the ride home our dear girl said, "Oh Daddy this was the best night of my life!" I was sorry to have not been included in the best night of her life, but Ryan is a pretty fun guy :)

The best thing was hearing Ryan recount the nights conversations once we had put the kids down to bed... watching him talk about our Sophie girl.. he had hearts and stars in his eyes :)

p.s.
One of the best nights of my life:
I remember laying in bed that evening and into the night... feeling so full of happiness that I could burst... only the smile and tears streaming could begin to illustrate the deep joy that I was brimming to overflowing with ... I was a mother! And here I was with my sweetheart and the most wonderful, perfectly beautiful baby. I was exhausted, but I could not sleep. All I wanted to do was hold her and stare at her... my little Sophie. I was elated with the fact that we would get to share our lives as mother and daughter and now 6 years fast forward... she is not as little, but just as much my joy. Her spunky, fun and creative personality inspires me. Her fiery and independent side teaches me. And her pure, thoughtful, words and ways humble me.

Happy Birthday Sophie Anne, and thank you for making me a mother...
