My wonderful mother and father in-law left yesterday after spending a week here with us. As they drove off, we waved them goodbye from our driveway until their car was no longer in sight (actually a tradition with my own dear family... we always walk guests out, but with our loved ones we'll stand on the porch, even walk out into the road to wave them goodbye for as long as they can see us/we can see them).
So after we could no longer see them we turned to head back inside. I looked at Sophie and she burst into tears, which in turn made the sprinklers go off in my own eyes. I picked her up and we cried right there for a good ten minutes. She is so much like me. It reminded me of just a few months ago driving away from the Beach House, waving goodbye to my mom for as long as I could see her and then bursting into tears and crying until the Santa Cruz mountains.

I usually have a very melancholy week following a family visit. My mind becomes overrun with thoughts of living close to our parents and of how great it would be to have frequent family meals together, celebrate birthdays together, be able drop by anytime to chat with my mom or mother-in-law when I need a visit, advice or just a change of scenery.... and more date nights (courtesy of their wonderful grandparents)! Not to mention I think it would just be so much nicer to live in town, to spend moments here and there, slices of everyday life rather than trying to jam pack everything (emotions, routines, schedules, expectations and all) into a week period of time... sometimes it's just too much. Anyway, so after family leaves I find myself constantly asking... Why do we live in Utah again?
... So I think I need to count my Utah Blessings and remember just why we have chosen this desert place:
(in no particular order)
1. Ryan has a job that he likes and that provides for the needs of our family.
2. It's beautiful... the mountains and canyons... and the skyscapes are often incredible.
3. It's a great place to live and raise a family.
4. Lots to do... so many great activities and opportunities at your fingertips.
5. Provo and Downtown... we love these places for a number of reasons.
6. Gorgeous seasons and a winter that makes you have a new appreciation for Spring :)
7. We are located approx. 10-20 minutes away from three of these:
