4th of July

Our Fourth of July was just a generic, all-American Fourth filled with early morning golf, the blasting of patriotic music while we marched around the house waving flags (tribute to Nan), swimming, bar-b-que and... fireworks!  Ever since I was a kid the Fourth has been one of my favorite holidays (only second to Christmas).  I have wonderful childhood memories of gathering with my Fotheringham extended family, swimming in my grandmother's pool all day (playing sharks and minnows or pretending to be mermaids or dolphins), flags, patriotic band music coming from the old poolside speakers, and then that night loaded with blankets and sweatshirts heading to the nearest park for the Lake fireworks.  This year more memories were made as we spent the day together and went to Riverton Park for fireworks.  We weren't actually in the park, but on a big lawn across the street covered with blankets and lawn chairs and about a hundred other people awaiting sunset.  The show was great, Porter was mesmerized, Sophie was sleepy but enjoyed herself, she especially enjoyed snapping together her glow sticks to make a necklace and bracelets.  During the grand finale a strange noise started.  It didn't dawn on me what it was until Ryan said, "Grab our stuff, grab our stuff!"  With sprinklers shooting off everywhere people were half screaming, half laughing trying to gather their children and possessions.  Ry just scooped up the kids in our quilt and off he went with me trailing behind, arms full of flip flops!

The whole way home Porter kept repeating. "Prinklers!" sending Sophie into giggles.
