Nap time... sweet baby

Helping with Chores

Porter goes down for a nap after lunch, but Sophie gave up naps long ago. So while Porter is sleeping we have "quiet time." It was created for the purpose of giving mommy a break to relax or accomplish tasks, but has actually become a special mother-daughter time that we both look forward to each day. When "quiet time" was first implemented, we would both work separately (and once in a while still do), but now instead of each doing our own thing, we work and play together. We paint and color, play with play-doh or snuggle and read books together on the couch. Sometimes Sophie helps me with chores that need to get done, laundry or dishes. She especially enjoys helping me in the kitchen while I prepare dinner. She loves to stir pots, measure and pour ingredients and be the official "taste tester," especially if we're making cookies! I love watching her, and listening to her little three year old thoughts and opinions as we interact. In so many ways I see her trying to be just like me. It makes me want to be better; a better mother, wife... a better everything! What a great blessing and opportunity motherhood is.
Here's Sophie making a play-doh "pizza."

You are such a great mom!! While I cherish my one on one time with my kids, I must admit that Grant trying to give up his nap, is making me panic! I love MY quiet time!
I remember when my boys were your kids age. I used to do the same thing when Ethan went down for a nap. Jack and I would have our one on one time....it was so fun. by the way have I told you how cute your kids are? So cute in fact that we have thought about borrowing the name Sophie! Would you be mad?
Jill... we think the same thing about your kids! And did you know Jack was one of our top names for Porter! Of course we wouldn't mind if you chose Sophie! Since I last checked we don't have a patent on the name, so feel free, we love her name! Congrats again... we love you guys!
I love that! We do quiet time too...about half the days. That is so cute when the kids just want to hang around mom and dad! I have to remind myself of that sometimes how that is a short window to just enjoy! I love those pictures - SOOO cute!
That made me tear up because it just reminded me of when Kenzie was little and we used to do those things together. How sweet!
